turning point

By remrick
Just when I was beginning to think that our English 1 class was going to be fun, Fate suddenly turned the tables on me.
Oh boy, did our last activity give me a headache. The excercises we tackled in class confirmed the complexity, and indeed the craziness, of the English language. Our group wasn't able to finish to finish even half of the exercises, and we weren't even sure of all our answers at that!
I never really gave much thought to picking out and identifying context clues, but I found out a while ago just how mind-wracking it could be. Or how about trying collocation(I didn't even know that there was such a word as collocation)? What's the difference between suppress and repress, and are they both applicable to the phrases "one's laughter" and "the will to live"?
I guess this means that I'll be spending some quality time with a good old dictionary tonight. I have a lot of homework to pore over.
Well, obviously, it just goes to show that I've a lot more to learn about the English language than I previously expected... and I hope my group mates help me out on this. So I guess this'll be all for today.
And oh, the moral of my story? Expect the unexpected.
